  • Struggle to read the messages on your smartphone?
  • Do images appear less vibrant than they used to?

Growing old is a privilege.

But when it comes to eye health, aging can bring on several ocular conditions and diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

Vision impairment decreases one's ability to perform activities of daily living and increases the risk for depression.

Whether you need reading glasses, bifocals, post-cataract surgery care, or eye disease co-management, we've got you covered!

At Highlands Ranch HD Eye Care in Highlands Ranch, we believe that prevention is the best medicine. That’s why annual eye exams are so important for seniors. Detecting eye conditions early on can help prevent or delay vision loss, keeping your vision clearer for longer. Some serious eye conditions don’t present noticeable symptoms until vision loss has occurred. Fortunately, these can be detected in their early stages by your eye care professional during your eye exam.

If an eye disease is diagnosed, we’ll create a custom treatment plan and monitor your condition closely to ensure the best outcome.

Senior Vision FAQs

Can presbyopia be corrected?

Presbyopia, age-related farsightedness, affects your eyes’ ability to focus on near objects. You may become aware of presbyopia once you begin holding books and newspapers at arm’s length to be able to read them. This condition is a natural part of the aging process and affects virtually all adults in their 40s. Our eye doctors will diagnose and help correct your presbyopia so you can see clearly again. They'll provide you with corrective glasses and/or contact lenses, such as monovision and multifcoals.

What are the most common vision problems in the elderly?

The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

  • Age-related macular degeneration is characterized by the loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma results in visual field loss.
  • Cataracts cause blurred vision and faded colors among the elderly.
  • Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by blurred vision and floaters, among other symptoms.
  • Other conditions include dry or watery eyes and floaters.

Because many of these conditions may initially be asymptomatic, it's critical that elderly patients undergo routine eye exams. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better the treatment outcome.

Can macular degeneration be prevented?

Although there’s no sure-fire method for preventing eye disease, certain lifestyle habits can put the odds in your favor. To help ensure healthy vision for a lifetime, wear high-quality sunglasses whenever outdoors, quit smoking if you do, eat eye-healthy foods, and ask your optometrist about taking AREDS supplements. Most importantly, regular visits with your eye doctor are crucial to keeping your vision sharp throughout your golden years.

Dr. Quinton and Jules truly made for a wonderful experience at HD Eye Care. They made me feel comfor... table and listened to my concerns regarding my current prescription. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Dr. Quinton is awesome! She is very thorough and explains everything as she is doing the exam. The e... ntire office has great customer service. Always kind and prompt. I have never waited more than a few minutes for my appointment. They have high end equipment which makes the exam that much better. I highly recommend Highlands Ranch HD Eye Care.

We checked out HD eye care because my boyfriend had a really bad experience with his previous eye do... ctor. On the day of his appointment, there was a blizzard. We called and told them we might be late, and they were so pleasant about it. Upon walking in, they were just grateful we got there in one piece. The staff was so friendly, it kind of shocked me because all we have ever had were bad experiences. They also had such an amazing selection of frames. Dr. Quintin was so kind, knowledgeable, and really took the time to get his Rx right. Another thing that we loved was that we only payed for an eye exam; Dr. Quintin let my boyfriend take home a pair of contacts to try before he committed to purchasing a year supply. This meant the world to us being on a fixed income, as his previous eye doctor never got his script right; in the past, he payed for contacts that weren’t even his correct prescription. The fact that she let him take them home to try and make sure they were perfect meant the world to us. I loved Dr. Quintin so much that now I’M switching eye doctors to see her. We look forward to seeing her for years to come.

Everyone there is so nice! I was joking and laughing with them as soon as I walked in. I was given ... excellent service, and best of all, I can see again!! No more eye fatigue, sitting at my desk all day staring at a computer. Super cute glasses, so many to choose from. Hannah was so patient with me as I tried on darn near every pair of glasses until I found the right ones. Highly recommend.

Went to this office for the first time the other day after our previous optometrist closed. The staf... f, technicians, and Dr. Jacobs were all very kind and knowledgeable and I felt very well cared for. While I didn't get glasses from the office, they did seem to have a very big selection. Glad to be going here!
